Anaemia

Anaemia
Are you anaemic? Anaemia is characterized by a decrease in the hemoglobin count and is usually caused by
iron deficiency but can also mean lack of Vitamin B12, B6, Folic acid or Copper. Here are a few remedies to
counter anaemia.
- Eat an iron rich diet. Green leafy vegetables, liver, beets, dried fruits, brown rice, lentils, molasses and bread
made of whole grain flour.
- Avoid coffee, tea and other antacids as they reduce iron
absorption.
- Take an Epsom salt bath or soak your feet for 5-10
minutes.
- Daily consumption of 3-4 figs is an excellent remedy.
- Make sure you eat a proper balanced diet and get all the
nutrients needed.
- Consumption of dandelion leaf extract also helps
against anemia. more

A very simple test for anemia is to see the color of lower eyes lids inside by stretching them down. White or whitish color is sign of anemia. Medium Red or pink color is for normal Hb or ion count. Use Tava, frying pan, sauce pan of traditional iron instead of aluminium or stainless steel. more
Besides Palak, Cholai, another leafy vegetable which is less used in Northern parts of India is said to contain iron. Another leafy vegetable called "Gongura" in Telugu, is widely used in Andhra Pradesh both as a saag and as achar. It is said to contain high percentage of absorbable natural iron. The leaf is sour in taste similar to mango or tamrind. In Hindi it is called 'san' and its stalk or stem is soaked in water to extract a fibre is spun into ropes used for knitting cots (in olden days!) or making ropes. more
