Airport Parking Fee
Today's newspaper carries an item on the parking fees at NSCBI Airport. The contractor intentionally keeps one exit gate closed so that the other two are jammed and the ten minute deadline is crossed whereby people have to pay up Rs 100/-. The contractor has complained that most of the parking spaces in the underground parking lies vacant resulting in loss of revenue.
There are many travellers who go out by a morning flight and return in the evening. There are some who go out for a day or two. Presently they get dropped at the airport by their own car or take a cab ride. On return they are picked up by their own car or they take a pre-paid cab back home. Presently overnight parking costs Rs 300 per day. This does not work out economical for a person to park his car overnight. Two trips of the personal car or taxi fares would work out cheaper; hence people prefer these options.
I have a suggestion. If the AAI were to revise the rates and make it attractive then many such frequent travellers would drive to the airport, park their car there and pick it up on return. (This is what happens everywhere in the west and other developed countries). This would fill up much of the vacant parking bays lying unutilised in the parking area and generate a lot of revenue. I would recommend Rs 125/- per day for the first seventy two hours and Rs 150/- per day beyond that. The enhanced rates after seventy two hours (3 days) would encourage people to free up the parking space early. more

I have the experience of keeping cycles / motorcycles near stations during childhood days. keeping a cycle or motorcycle near a station is huge advantage. No doubt parking cars near airport will be major advantage. The space now available will be too small. Consider 280 planes land per day. multiply 200 people per flight on average minimum scale about 56 K passengers . consider 5% users- 2500 cars . If a person comes after 1 day = 5000 cars. this is as of current. parking for say 6000 cars will be a huge infrastructure by itself. more

Parking lot people are cheating people everyday. They dont give 10 min free time for ola / uber cabs. They are charged 100 per pickup, which passengers have to pay. Official are with these cheaters. Uber / Ola are also part of this cheating process. Airport Authority is corrupt. more
