Air pollution due to dump-yard

Dear All, A dump-yard near to residential areas in Hyderabad is causing a lot of air pollution and unbearable stench almost everyday since the past 15 years. The situation becomes worse during winter months when this mixes with fog and settles down through the nights, badly affecting the health and quality of life of residents in near-by areas. Reporting to Municipal authorities and requesting them to shift it to some place far away from residential areas did not result in any positive outcome and we continue to suffer due to it. Are there any options to the citizens residing in surrounding areas to force the municipality to shift the dumping yard away from residential areas? more

It seems that the work should begin on the concept of waste to wealth to convert waste management model into an economic activity. The waste management model should include bioCNG projects as well. The Union government may give guaranteed purchase of compressed biogas at a price (....Rs/ kg of gas). Biogas can also be produced out of farm waste. Bio-methanation model can be raised to roll out a successful trade, which can generate more employment. Minimum distance from residential area may be worked out on scientific/technological basis with minimum of health impacts. more
What's the point of putting them very close to residential areas and subjecting people to needless suffering? Isn't it common-sense that such projects which emit toxic gases and stench need to be set-up very far away from residential areas? more
Waste to Energy (WtE) projects need to be raised. Identification of major drivers and constraints in the WtE market in this area can potentially help find the solution(s). Municipality may raise its investment potential in WtE projects as such projects may be a potential revenue generator for the municipality. more
More-over, when the world is going green by adopting non-polluting sources of energy, such polluting projects are questionable. Now that waste is being segregated at sources, it can be better managed rather then simply being burnt. more
