AIIMS Delhi – Key Issues
1. No provision for booking appointment online

3. The staff members are very lazy, slow
4. Staff is usually very rude with the patients
5. Hospital premises is very dirty
6. Waiting time to see a doctor is too much
7. Not enough sitting arrangements for the patients
8. There is shortage of doctors
9. No special arrangements for senior citizens
10. Number of beds are not enough for the patients
11. Parking facilities are really poor and people have to walk almost a kilometre to get to the main building
12. Test reports take a long time to reach patients
13. In OPD the senior doctors come late
14. The behaviour of most of the doctors particularly junior ones is not service oriented
15. Most of the days, there is a shortage of medicines in AIIMS
At first instance the case also goes to junior Doctors in AIIMS. If he observed that it should go to senior than he refers or discuss with his senior and act accordingly.

Computerisation of registration and records is must. Institution of such scale can be run smoothly only with extensive computerisation. Let us visualize a situation where a patient sends a request for registration to AIIMS through e-mail or Mobile App. He registers on the app or mail the same information as is done on the counter and allotted a time slot at a particular clinic/doctor. He may upload his previous record also through scan. If not it can be done at the hospital 1/2 an hr before appointment. Patient visit the clinic at the allotted time. At the clinic his records are seen on computer by Doctor. The Doctor scribbles his diagnosis, prescription and tests required on the pad connected to computer. Patient is automatically given time slots to the laboratories/ clinics prescribed by the doctor. He is also given time slot for next consultation. The clinics/laboratories after their procedure upload their results appending it to patient's record. The patient visits the doctor on the next slot and the procedure may be repeated as required. Un-necessary mad rush for registration, waiting at clinics, getting time slots for labs etc. can be minimised with these simple steps. In-patient wards and other infrastructural facilities as well as staff has to be augmented manifold.

Dear Tapas ji, This is one of the angle to understand the doctors problems but there many other issues addressed by so many of group members, they are also valid points but at the same time I agree with you that there should be PHC or SHC center to handle load of patients.

I strongly feel that we are downgrading AIIMS by referring or entertaining patients which can be handled by Primary Health Centers (PHC) or Secondary Health Centers (SHC). AIIMS being a Super Specialty Center of repute must only handle complicated cases. The Medical Doctors available are EXTREMELY TALENTED. We always find mistakes in others (here AIIMS) but have we ever thought of revamping our PHCs & SHCs or the plights of the Doctors working in these hardships. I do agree that no of Doctors are extremely very low compared to the no of patients visit daily that is only because that even common cough & cold cases are visiting AIIMS or patients with HIGH LINKS like Politicians, Bureaucrats, Judicial feel pride to visit AIIMS for small issues. We must visit this angle also. I am not a medico but when ever I visit any place, I try to see the reasons for why such things happens.
