AAM brigade descends on Varanasi

All roads for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers and supporters lead to Varanasi as their chief Arvind Kejriwal left for the holy city on Monday evening to fight one of the most interesting electoral battles this election against Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Hundreds of volunteers and AAP's senior leaders including Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are already in Varanasi and in days ahead thousands of volunteers would keep coming to the city frequently. The volunteers will also spend time in Amethi, another big fight for the party.

Kejriwal left for Varanasi alongwith his key aides and parents by a train. "Varanasi amethi ke liye nikal gaya hun. Mahakranti ka agaaz karne. Varanasi Modi ko haraegi, Amethi rahul ko. Fir ek nai rajniti janm legi. (Have left for Varanasi and Amethi to start a big revolution. Varanasi will defeat Modi and Amethi will defeat Rahul. And then a new kind of politics will take birth)," Kejriwal tweeted.

"Please do pray for the country. Your prayers have always done wonders. And if you have time, please do come to Varanasi or Amethi," added Kejriwal while inviting people to join him or Kumar Vishwas, AAP's Amethi candidate. Hse aid his wife would also join him soon.

AAP sources told dna, "Around 2,000 – 3,000 more volunteers are ready to go in phases. As and when elections in other states get over, leaders and volunteers from across India – including Mumbai, Delhi and others — would also come to Varanasi and Amethi."

Not just volunteers, AAP MLAs from Delhi including his cabinet colleagues would also go to Varanasi and Amethi. "Arvindji has given a call to people today also to join him in Varanasi … thus hundreds and hundreds of people would be coming to Varanasi in days ahead. They will also be working in another important constituency – Amethi - for fight against Congress's Rahul Gandhi," AAP's spokesperson Deepak Bajpai told dna.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal's trusted campaign manager, Gopal Mohan, who handled his campaign against Sheila Dikshit during Delhi Assembly elections is already in Varanasi and has started the initial work on of drawing the finer blueprint of AAP's strategy for the constituency. 30-year-old Mohan, an electronic engineering graduate and PhD from IIT Delhi in energy studies, has been with Kejriwal since the time of Jan Lokpal agitation. more
