I am a Retd. Govt. Officer and frequently travel in train in connection with ISO certification related work. I also find pathetic condition about maintenance and service of the trains. I gave up taking foods from train because of abnormal poor quality visa-vis non standard price. Many of the services are being outsourced and that too is not being monitored or evaluated for the performances of the contractors.

In my opinion Railway Min should convey wide survey and Gap analysis by competent third party -Railway Zone wise for providing reasonable service to the passengers in all trains, not only to a few Shatabdi or Rajdhani Express. One more thing I would like to mention that whenever I travel overnight journey, I feel that there is no security in the mail or express trains, not even in the Super fast trains. more

Dear  Shri Sensarma, Travelling in India by Rail has become an unpleasant and horrifying experience. Reserved long distance seats/berths are occupied by hooligans and short distance travelers, corrupt TTEs who never listen to passengers holding valid reservations, unhygienic compartments/ toilets, dirty platforms, unavailability of drinking water, Third rate/unhygienic food and exorbitant price, theft, poor passenger safety etc. have become the order of the day. Why are we not learning from countries like China, Japan etc? A train takes only about 4 hrs 30 mins to  5 hrs for travelling nearly 1200 Kms from Beijing to Shanghai!! And in beautiful carriages! Indian Railway can never improve. We need to be disciplined and Law abiding to achieve the efficiency of Japan, China etc. Regards, COL. VBA.
