It has been noticed that the major retailers like Home Saaz, Myntra, Jabong, Pantaloons, Shoppers Stop, Lifestyle are adapting to unfair business practices by charging taxes on the discounted prices so arrived after earmarking for the offered discounts. Since the MRP is alwayz inclusive of taxes as per MRP rules for the packaged commodities, the discounted prices also become inclusive of Taxes in that proportion. The charging of taxes on such discounted prices is not only amounting to violation of MRP rules but also mislead the consumers as the product does not get purchase at the net discounted prices. Honable State Commissions and Honable National Commission have already adjudicated the matter and termed charging of taxes on discounted prices as unfair business practices. The petitioner on various occasions have got refund of the excess amount as and when the issue taken up but the practices still continues affecting almost all consumers who either or not aware or unable to raise the voice against such deceptive practices. I appeal to all the members to kindly sign the petition with their comments so that we are able to stop such deceptive trade practices. The Controller of Legal Metrology and Director, Legal Metrology are appealed to issue necessary notification for the benefit of the consumers across the country. Meanwhile I have already reported matter against Home Saaz Faridabad to Controller Legal Metrology, Haryana for taking penal action.
The Petition was also marked to:

Respected all, This petition has been seen by 1223 members and out of so many visitors just 145 members have signed despite a fact that the petition is for 100% population of this country as all of us are affected with this unfair business practices of business houses across the country. The Activists can bell the cat only with the support of members and would encourage them to carry forward with their task of compelling business houses to stop the unfair business practices. I sincerely appeal to all the members to kindly pass on the petition to their contacts for signature so as to flood the office of the controller of legal metrology to issue notification which is somehow not coming despite best efforts from 2014 onwards. We all together can change the system for betterment so that the coming generation do not have to fight at the retailers outlets for fair business. It will be my pleasure if we together can get another 500 signatures today itself and show our dedication of fair business practices to the Govt. of India. more

Dear all, There should be some authority to decide the MRP based on commodities. If it is fall in essential commodities, then MRP should be reasonable. Many outlets are putting lebel of their own MRP tag and not the manufacturer .SO in this case there should be watch and penalty may be applied on such supplier. more

Sir Thanks for your interest in the post. In my view the fixation of MRP should be left to the manufacturer without any control of any authority except in the essential commodities. The moment any authority step in in such activities, it is going to result only in corruption. Moreover how any authority or Govt can enforce the ceiling on the margin being kept in the prices. Normally the market and the competition could drive out the pricing of any product. As an example, the packaged water in the market is Rs. 20/- per bottle and the same bottle is priced in the multiplex may be Rs. 50- Rs.100/-. Since there is no competition in the malls or multiplex, the price is more. Yes we as consumer need to ensure that 'Right to Choose' be available and there is no cartelisation like in petro/diesal or LPG prices. more

Agree 100%. The consumers also need to come out of feeling 'chalta hai' ' kya hua 50-100 rs ki hi to baat hai' more

MRP must be fixed by a body like BIS. No inflated costs will then be possible. The GST as applicable can be added. If there is a discount then the GST will proportionately reduce.
Pay GST only against bills printed with GST regn nbr. The Govt must give consumers waiver of IT on amount paid as GST. This would be a great relief. more

But surprisingly the Department of Consumer Affairs is total useless they responded to one of my grievance against Bajaj Auto Ltd. that pls approach court as we don't have powers vested. So practically all Babus are just taking salaries and enjoying just like MPs are... So our citizenship is also in danger...HORRIFIC. more

Our struggle is not to fix the MRP. Let it be prerogative of the manufacturer to fix the prices. Since the MRP is inclusive of tax so is the discounted price is also inclusive of tax. For an example if the product with MRP of Rs. 1,000/- is offered at 50% discount, it should be available to the consumer at Rs. 500/-. more
